News from the Golf Shop……

The golf God’s certainly blessed us with the longest season in my 21 years of service at LFCC. I cannot remember ever having over 200 rounds played in the month of January, not to mention numerous opportunities in December. Personally, it was awesome seeing all the happy golfers enjoying those bonus rounds and getting a little more bang for their membership.

As you read this, I have just returned to Champaign after four days at the annual PGA Merchandise Show where I attended several educational seminars, made buying decisions for product for the Golf Shop and walked many miles while at the one-million square foot Orange County Convention Center.

Men’s League Golfers: As we prepare the Men’s Wednesday Night League program for the 2012 season, we need your help. Please contact your partner from the 2011 season and confirm whether or not you are planning to team up again in 2012. Once you have confirmed (one way or another), please email me with your plans. Your email response will not bind you for the 2012 season; however, it will greatly assist us in planning as well as notifying potential new teams on the waiting list.

Also, anyone interested in being added to the regular substitute list, please contact me via phone or email. Participating on a week-to-week basis offers a wonderful opportunity to get to meet many of your fellow members and enjoy a little extra time on the course each week. The competition is light, the camaraderie tremendous and the food and spirits afterwards, always excellent.

Ladies 9-Hole League: There will be a season kickoff gathering for dinner on Thursday, March 29^th at 6pm. Ladies 9-Hole League alumni and interested parties are encouraged to attend this informational get together. Discussions will take place on the calendar of events, sub-committee assignments and general league information.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow golfers and catch up on what’s been going on during the off-season.

The Ladies 9-Hole League gathers on Wednesday mornings at 8:45a (9:00a shotgun start) for 9 holes of golf followed by a casual lunch for those that can stay. Each week provides a different game of chance and skill with the opportunity to spend time with your fellow members while enjoying the best course in central Illinois.

This year’s League Co-Chairs: Kathy Barton, Sharon Dill & Ellie Tracy.

Ladies 18-Hole League: The Ladies 18-hole League kicks off another exciting season with an 8:30a shotgun on Tuesday, May 1^st, with lunch following play.

Judy Nowak and laurel Tucker have graciously agreed to Co-chair this year’s League. I would anticipate an informational meeting sometime in late March to early April. Stay tuned, it’s going to be a FUN season!

The Ladies 18-Hole League gathers on Tuesday mornings at 7:45a (8:00a shotgun start) June, July and August, 8:30a shotgun start May and September for 18 holes of golf followed by a casual lunch for those that can stay. Each week provides a different game of chance and skill with the opportunity to spend time with your fellow members while enjoying the best course in central Illinois.

Club Service Offerings: Please be aware that with the March newsletter will be information regarding the Driving Range and Club Storage & Cleaning offerings. If interested, please don’t wait too long to take advantage of those “Early Bird Savings” programs as they are date sensitive.

Private Carts: For those of you that enjoy the privilege of using your own private cart at

LFCC, your March bill will have the first installment of the two-part payment program. Your private cart Trail Fee has been broken down into two equal payments of $300, in March and June. Also, if you operated your own private cart in 2011 you will soon be receiving the Trail Fee Application form. That form describes your obligation as a private cart owner to furnish the Club proof of insurance on your cart. If you did not operate a private cart in 2011, but would like to enjoy this convenience in 2012 season, please contact either the Golf Shop or Club office for a copy of the necessary information.

Please be aware that proof of insurance for your private cart must be provided to the Club annually. The Board of Directors requests that your proof of insurance reaches the Club not later than April 15^th. Proof of insurance can be faxed, mailed, emailed or delivered in person to the Golf Shop. Please do not send it in with your remittance payment to the Club lock box.

In closing, I would like to say, with January behind us, golf is a just a short month away. The proof is that I have already viewed a handful of Masters promotions. After all, what can be better than “March Madness”, followed by The Masters. AWESOME!

LFCC Club News…….

Happy New Year! I hope you are blessed with health, happiness and prosperity in 2012. Not to mention lots of golf! That goes with saying….

Please accept my apologies for the delay in this newsletter reaching you, however, I wanted to have confirmations on a few matters before communicating the facts to you. I take sole responsibility for the delay. It has always been my goal to get you the monthly newsletter information as timely as possible.

As a most challenging year comes to an end, it is with sincere thanks to the generosity of the LFCC membership for their continued support of the Employee Holiday Fund. As a department head and proud employee of LFCC, thank you for graciously sharing a little holiday spirit with the service family here at LFCC. I can tell you first hand from the smiles that I saw when handing out the holiday bonus checks, the staff is most appreciative of your generosity and support. Many thanks!

I’m delighted to pass along news that the good people of both Champaign Country Club and Urbana Country Club have graciously opened their arms to the membership of LFCC during our two-week shutdown. January 29^th through February 13^th, LFCC members are welcome to dine at either of these two clubs and charge the fees back to LFCC. I would strongly encourage you call first as both facilities have their own memberships as well as private functions to serve.

As we move into January, I wanted to let you know that the club shutdown will take place from January 29^th through February 13^th. The club will reopen for dinner service only on Valentine’s Day, February 14^th. Chef Chris has plans underway to make that a very special evening here at LFCC, more news about Valentine’s Day in the Chef’s column as well as in upcoming weekly email updates. With that said, now is a good time to make your reservation and reserve a spot for this special evening.

Don’t forget to mark you calendar for the “shutdown special” slated for Saturday, January 28^th. Chef will have a variety of different foods available at a very special price, but no guarantees that there will be enough of everything to go around. What I can guarantee, the food will be delicious and that no one will go home hungry. Stay tuned to the weekly emails for more updates as we get closer to the final day of food service for January.

As my role at LFCC has expanded, I extend a heartfelt thank you for your encouragement, support and feedback. To date I have encountered numerous challenges, however, with the assistance of Chef, Scott, Kate, Roxanne, Virginia and Becky, I’m confident we are heading in the right direction. Working intimately with the department heads over the last couple of months, in my opinion, you have some extremely talented and dedicated staff members. This I’m sure comes as no surprise, just thought you may need to be reminded.

On behalf of Roxanne, Virginia and myself, we appreciate the patience you have provided us as we figure out all the new office challenges and duties we are learning on the go.

On a personal note, I have thoroughly enjoyed visiting with you as you dine during the evenings. Your welcoming smiles, friendly comments and continued feedback are always welcome. After all, we are here to make your club the best it can be and you are an integral part of that process.

I would also like to thank the membership for embracing the 1^st annual New Year’s Eve celebration, we hosted approximately 170 people and a great time was had be all. I have had numerous individuals pass along positive feedback from all phases of the evening. Major kudos go out to Chef Chris, Kate and the entire service team, as you can imagine, it was a FUN evening for all of us as well. I can hardly wait until the 2^nd annual.

As we move forward, we are planning a change in the delivery of the monthly statements. It is our goal within the next three months to provide you your club statements electronically. This initiative should provide a more timely delivery and hopefully a cost savings to the Club over time. To assist us with this process, we will need to be sure we have an updated email address where you would like to receive this information. Also, if you are not a fan of the electronic age, we will continue to accommodate those that would like to continue receiving their monthly statement by mail, please just let us know.

From all of us on the service team, we value your support, patronage and feedback as to how we are doing. We are dedicated to making your Club the best it can be and that includes listening to the comments/concerns of the membership. Thank you and I look forward to seeing you at the Club very soon.

I will now transition into the golf related portion of the newsletter.

As I look out over the course, it’s remarkable to see the beautiful sight of green grass, not the sandy beige dormant color (or snow) we usually associate with the course at this time of year. To date, it has been a great fall and early winter…..no complaints.

Like most golfers, a day doesn’t go by without a little mental golf being played. The best part, I never miss a shot during those rounds. Never fear, golf returns to TV January 6-9^th with the Tournament of Champions from Kapalua, Hawaii. Missing this year will be a high profile former #1 player in the world. Not a big deal since he usually skipped this event anyway.

Thank You: I would like to say many thanks to everyone that took time this past year to participate in our programs, or just enjoy time with family and friends here at LFCC. Whether it was for golf, swimming, tennis or dining, your support and participation are the backbone and the continued stability of this wonderful Club.

To all that patronized the Golf Shop in 2011, I offer a sincere thank you. With such a limited customer base, I’m extremely grateful to have such loyal customers. Congratulations: Steve Snyder seems to have a lock on the kudos this month; first by holing his second shot on hole #14 for an eagle 2, followed by a round of 75 on December 31^st with good friend Mike Cline. It must have been Mike’s calming affect!

Golf Shop Closure: As the calendar turns to 2012, the Golf Shop has closed its doors until early March. With that said, I’m delighted to report assistant professionals Becky Beach and Kyle VanScyoc have both agreed to return for the 2012 season. Becky and Kyle bring significant stability and excellence to our golf program, and it is likely I will be leaning on Becky and Kyle a bit more going forward. The three of us are optimistic that the 2012 season will bring us continue good weather and look forward to seeing you out enjoying your Club.

Golf Course Status: As many of you know, the golf season has continued long past our usual course closure period. This is music to the ears of our core golfers that continue to enjoy winter rounds here in central Illinois. Please be aware, that currently, the course availability is on a day-to-day bases. It is impossible to predict how long “mother nature” will bless us with weather conducive to golfing, but we will take each and every day we get them. That said, please be aware closures and re-opening are likely, please call ahead before venturing out to play. A good rule of thumb to use; when the flagsticks are in, the course is open, when they are not, it is probably closed.

Winter Service: If you have a winter golf trip ahead, but realized that your clubs are in dyer need of new grips, feel free to drop me an email and we will work out the details of getting your clubs ready for the trip. In most cases, if we have the desired grips in stock it only takes a day to get the job done. Don’t let slippery, worn out grips ruin what should be an enjoyable experience!

Also, if you have plans to travel during the winter months and need assistance playing private or hard to book courses, please feel free to ask me to make a phone call or two. Sometimes fellow professionals have the flexibility to accommodate requests from their peers in the business depending on the circumstances. No guarantees, but you never know until you ask.

News from the Golf Shop……..

With the arrival of the holiday season, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the honor of serving another year as your golf professional. My family and I take great pride in representing LFCC and its wonderful membership.

December will be a busy month here at the Club, hope you are able to enjoy some of the festive events, or just a little good cheer with family and friends. The club has been decorated and is showing the holiday spirit. Please be sure to reference you calendar on a regular basis as there are many activities scheduled during the coming weeks.

I’m grateful to the Board for the faith they displayed in the new management team, Chris Alwes, Scott Werner and myself. On a personal note, I will say that to date it has been enlightening as well as challenging getting my arms around all the additional duties. That said, LFCC is a wonderful place, one worth going the extra mile for. Speaking for the three of us, we have been working diligently to improve the level of service you expect throughout the club and look forward to seeing you and hearing your feedback.

I have spent significant time trying to get up to speed on many areas of the facility that are new to me, and furthermore, to date you have been very patient. There is nothing quite like learning a new position on the fly, however, it occasionally puts me in a position where I cannot answer your question without doing some homework before getting you an answer. I am always willing to field the hard questions, just please understand I am not quite up to speed on all clubhouse related matters and so it may take a bit of time before I get back to you with an answer. Thank you for your patience and understanding and your continued passion and support of your club.

It has also been very enjoyable having the chance to communicate with you as you dine on Thursday evenings. Though we continue to face service challenges head on, the feedback you have provided us is encouraging as well as instrumental in developing a plan to further elevate the service standards you expect of us. Thank you for your continued feedback, patience and patronage of the club, the entire staff is dedicated to going above and beyond to meet or exceed your expectations.

Now I will transition into the golf information.

Late Season Golf: November provided us with some fantastic weather for golf, and I was happy to see so many of you able to capitalize on the favorable conditions. The course remains beautiful, and I’m hoping December will offer a bit more of the same.

I’m happy to report, we will continue offering our November Green Fee special: 18 holes for $30. This offer is too good to pass up, so if the weather warms up a bit, rally up a few friends and come on out and ENJOY a few more holes.

Please be aware that with the colder nights, the chance of morning frost is heightened. If frost exists, please avoid walking or driving on any areas of turf resulting in damage to the surface. Damage that occurs this late in the year usually lasts well into spring.

Congratulations: Since the last newsletter, Doris Higgins heads the list this month celebrating her Hole-In-One on #4. After two shoulder surgeries (one on each) and missing almost two seasons of golf, the golf God’s were shining on her return to the game. Way to go Doris!

Another possible first here at LFCC, the father-son duo of Dave and Andy Keeling both achieved one-putt eagles on the always difficult hole #12 within just days of each other. No family bragging rights on this one, but quite a fantastic feat anyway.

Thank You: If you participated in any of our various events this season, thank you. If your schedule was too busy to join us for one of our many events, I certainly hope you were able to enjoy a few rounds of casual golf with family or friends. We look forward to having you join in on the FUN in 2012.

The golf committee provided tremendous support and direction for the golf program this year. I would like to personally thank Mike Zopf (Chair), Jo Anderson, Doris Higgins, Debbie Millage, Mark Miller, John Petersen, Sue Peterson, Craig Vedvik and Steve Wanzek for their passion, pride and support for their Club. Many of these individuals also provided leadership chairing event sub-committees to provide you with an exceptional variety of events. Thank you all!

As always, we will gladly gift-wrap your purchases.

$uper $ale: Our annual “$uper $ale” will take place December 27^th through 30^th (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday). This annual celebration of outrageous bargains has become quite an event and a great opportunity to give yourself that special gift you missed out on. Doors open at 10am sharp on December 27^th. Please be aware that all sales are final during the “$uper $ale.

The hours of operation for our “$uper $ale” will be as follows:

Tuesday December 27^th through Friday December 30^th – 10am to 6pm

Club Storage: If you have your clubs in storage at the Golf Shop, remember they need to be picked up no later than December 18^th. Due to insurance regulations; we cannot store any member clubs through the winter months. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Golf Shop Hours: The hours of operation for December (through Dec. 24th) will be as follows. In addition to the regular Golf Shop hours listed below, we will also accommodate golfers outside of the hours listed when weather permits.

Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday 10am to 5pm

(Saturday Dec. 24^th 9am to 3pm)

Thursdays 10am to 7pm

Saturday & Sunday 9am to 4pm

Please be aware that on December 24^th the Golf Shop will be open from 9am- 3pm for last minute shoppers, and will not reopen until 10am on Thursday December 27^th.

Monday Outings for 2012: If your business is interested in hosting a private outing in 2011, now is the time to get a date booked as we currently have a few dates already scheduled. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact me for further information. Also, please share the word that LFCC is a great place to host an event, as tax status does not permit us to advertise for such business. The staff at LFCC is confident that your outing will be the talk of the town.

Additionally, LFCC offers an excellent venue to host small groups throughout the season. We would be happy to discuss hosting your group in the coming season.

Driving Range: The driving range is now closed for the season.

November 2011 Newsletter

News from the Golf Shop…….

As we turn the calendar to November, leaves litter the ground, high school football nears its playoffs and Fighting Illini basketball is revving up. With that said, it is likely we will have several beautiful days ahead for golf, so don’t put your clubs away just yet.

Expanded Roles: With the recent decision to eliminate the position of General Manager here at the Club, Executive Chef Chris Alwes and I have both taken on expanded duties. Chef’s expanded duties include all things food and beverage; ordering, menu selection, food preparation, pricing, server training, etc. As he says, “if you eat it or drink it, I’m your guy”. That leaves the clubhouse and administrative office operations under my supervision. This is not to say we will not overlap, because we most certainly will when it is in the best interest of the facility. However, if you would like to convey a specific comment, question or concern, this will help you determine which of us is better suited to address your matter.

With that said, it will not be unusual to see me making the rounds in the Dining Room or 19^th Hole greeting diners and asking if there is anything we may assist you with. Conversely, Chef will also be spending time in the administrative office getting a better understanding of the total operation.

We will also be aided by the assistance of our Course Superintendent, Scott Werner when matters involve overlap between clubhouse and grounds. The three of us are excited and confident about the opportunity to meet or exceed your expectations. We value your feedback and please don’t hesitate to approach us with questions, comments or concerns. Our goal is to enhance your overall experience while at your Club and enhance the value of your membership while not overlooking the reason we are here, for you the Member.

Congratulations to: LFCC had four golfers qualify for the IHSA State Finals, achieving the ultimate experience at the highest level: Caroline Dodds & McKensie Stipes represented St. Thomas More, while Ryan Hunt & Jonathan Sherrick represented Centennial. These fine young golfers represented their respective schools with honor and pride, but also represented LFCC in fine fashion. We are exceptionally proud of all of them. Congrats to all!

McKenzie Stipes recorded new lifetime lows on her way to the State finals carding 83 in the Sangamon Valley Conference meet, the carding 82 at the Regional qualifier. Her round of 82 was also good enough for medallist honors for the meet. Great job Mckenzie!

Also on the highlight reel this month are lifetime lows: Scott Peters (67), Beth Mathews (94), an eagle 3 on hole #2 for Jackie Barkmeier and an eagle 2 on hole #1 for John Petersen. Who says Fall golf is not exciting!

“Mean 18” bragging rights belong to Mark Baumann, Ryan Baumann, Ian Dabrowski & Andy Keeling carding an outstanding round of 61. The net division was won by: Mark Czys, Kim Martin, Chris Monohan & Bill Peifer. With 18 foursomes followed by an outstanding Harvest Moon Party, it was a great day start to finish.

Fall Member-Guest results: Division I winners were: Gary Kling & Joda Crabtree with a better-ball score of 65, Division II winners were: Steve Wanzek & Bruce Walden with a better-ball score of 62, and Division III winners were: Toney Tomaso & Mike weber with a better-ball score of 62. We had an excellent turn out with 50 two-player teams, while bluster weather hampered the scoring for some, it didn’t impact the FUN had by all.

Thank You: I wanted to express sincere appreciation to Chris Reis for leadership and friendship over the last 3 ½ years here at LFCC. Chris’ leadership and calming influence will be missed at LFCC, we wish he and his family the very best where ever his next endeavor takes him.

I would also like to thank my loyal assistant’s, Becky Beach and Kyle VanScyoc. Becky has been providing excellent service and loyal support for the past 28 seasons, while Kyle has provided us a new energy and passion completing a very successful third season. We are very blessed to have these two exceptional individuals as part of the LFCC family.

I would like to thank you for the outpouring of support you have provided my family and I during the recent passing of my Mother. While at age 92 it should not be unexpected, it still comes as quite a shock when it actually happens. Your cards, well wishes and prayers have been very comforting to all of us. She was a very special lady, leaving a legacy of 8 children, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and touching lives all over the world for more that 70 years. She will be missed, but NEVER forgotten, God Bless.

Stimulus Bill Approved: That probably got your attention! Actually, your Board of Directors acting on a request from the golf department agreed to offer $30 green fees beginning November 1^st and running through the remaining 2011 season. If my math is correct, that’s a 40% savings over the everyday price of $50.

This makes November a very attractive month to host guests for a round of golf. Also, keep in mind that we have already relaxed the Club policy relating to the number of times a guest may enjoy a round of golf at LFCC. With the golf course still in exceptional playing condition, give your friends a call and plan a round or two at this tremendous savings. After all, everyone enjoys saying a little green now and then!

Please be aware: As was mentioned in the last newsletter, please be aware that with the fall season, we encounter the likelihood from time-to-time of morning frost. Please take caution to avoid foot and cart traffic across the course during periods of frost, as this will result in unnecessary damage to the turf-grass surfaces. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Patriot Day: Thanks to the many generous contributions, we accumulated total donations of $296. I matched that amount and forwarded the funds to the Folds of Honor Foundation on behalf of LFCC. Thank you for supporting this exceptional organization.

Handicap Service: Score posting will conclude for the season on October 31^st. Year-end handicap labels can be printed in anticipation of winter golf trips.

Towel Service: As we close the page on October, we have now ended our seasonal towel service. At this time, we ask that you make one last check of your carts, golf bags, garages and laundry areas for any borrowed towels. Our linens provider has picked up our inventory of towels and will soon bill the Club for any missing units. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our costs down for this valuable and highly enjoyed service. If you locate any of these missing towels, please drop them off at the golf shop ASAP. Again, many thanks!

Men’s League golfers: If you were part of a regular two-player team this year, please take a moment and contact your partner and let us know your plans for 2012. As we near the end of 2011, we are well into the planning stages for the 2012 golf season. Your assistance with this planning is greatly appreciated.

Also, if you were a substitute this year, or a new member that would like to join in on the FUN as part of a team in 2012, please let us know. It is quite possible we will have team openings in the best Men’s League in central Illinois.

Golf Shop Credit: If you were one of the lucky ones that participated in one of our many golf events and cashed, you received golf shop credit to be used towards the purchase of merchandise. Please be aware that all golf shop credit has an expiration of December 24, 2011.

The good news, during the month of November we will be running numerous specials throughout. Remember, the Golf Shop is an excellent place to shop for those on your holiday gift-giving list. With plenty of parking, familiar faces and free gift-wrapping on your purchases, what could be easier?

Golf Shop Hours: For the month of November, the golf shop hours will be Tuesday – Friday 10am to 5pm, Saturday’s & Sunday 10am to 4pm. The golf shop will remain open on Sunday’s in November & December while the clubhouse is closed.

Additionally, thinking positively, the Golf Shop will also accommodate our golfers outside of these hours when the weather warrants play. We hope that will be frequently!

In observance of Thanksgiving, the Golf Shop will be closed on Thursday, November 24^th.

Driving Range Hours: Though a formal closing date has not been set, please be aware that Driving Range will soon be closing for the season. This means that it will be open on a day-by-day basis as weather permits. If planning a trip over to use the Driving Range, please call ahead just to be sure it is open.

In closing, I would like to again express what an honor and privilege it has been to serve as your head golf professional. Though the LFCC family has lost a few brothers and sisters over the past couple of years, it’s still one of the finest groups of people anywhere.

I would like to wish you and your loved ones all the best as you celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, let’s be thankful for all the special people in our lives.

News from the Golf Shop………

Temperatures have dipped, the leaves are beginning to change colors, the 4-0 Fighting Illini football team will be hosting in-state rival Northwestern, all sure signs that Fall has arrived.

It also means that the course survived another difficult summer, but thanks to the expertise of Superintendent Werner and his staff, it remains in excellent condition. Be sure to schedule a few days of play during the prettiest season of the year (fall).

Congratulations: Brad Hatfield takes top honors this month with his Hole-In-One on hole #7 (during Men’s League). From what I hear, the shot took two bounces and jumped in the hole. Nice going Brad!

Art Warren and Bob Young out dueled Steve Gilbertz and Ron Wagner in the Fields Match Play finals. Both teams successfully navigated their way through the summer long matches to reach the finals. Congrats Art and Bob!

Kudos are also in order for the LFCC Pro-Am team of Becky Beach, Dave Keeling, Art Warren & Scott Werner for their victory at the CIPGA Pro-Am at Metamora Fields Golf Course. Way to represent….

September saw eagles by Mike Hill on hole #5, and Mike Hedge on hole #14. Holing out from the fairway is sure good for your putting statistics, not to mention your score. LFCC was well represented at the Rebounders Outing at the U of I Orange Course. The ladies division was won by: Jo Anderson, Debbie Grill, Kay Miller and Sue Peterson. Way to represent ladies!

Lifetime lows were recorded by Jo Anderson (85), Steve Carmichael (79) and Martin Wu (76). Kudos to all!

Thank You: As the season winds down, I reflect on what was a very good year (for golf) at LFCC. Most of our events went off without a hitch, and we experienced record setting participation in many of our events. This is not without a sensational effort from our various event sub-committees, as well as the passion of our Golf Committee.

“Mean 18”: Scheduled for Friday, October 7^th, this “bring your best” scramble has become an annual favorite for many. The course will be set-up very long, playing from the “tips”, (black tees) with the pin positions extremely difficult. Though these difficult conditions would usually bring numerous comments of concern, for this event it’s all fair game.

Lunch begins at 11:30a, shotgun start at 12:30p, dinner buffet at 6:30p and the evening entertainment at 7:30p. This will surely be a day to remember, don’t delay sign-up today. If you are not signed up for the scramble, you will still want to come out and ENJOY the Harvest Moon buffet and live entertainment.

Fall Member-Guest: Scheduled for Friday October 14^th, this two-player team event has become very popular with many of our golfers. The format will be a One Best Ball (Net) twosome. With an entry fee of just $35, this event has a history of filling up fast. Don’t delay, give us a call and secure a spot in the field. What better way to start the weekend with the Buckeyes coming to town for a game on Saturday? Space is limited so don’t delay, sign-up today!

Early Morning Golf: I hope you have had a chance to enjoy a few early morning rounds, but if not, you will have to wait until next year. This year’s program has concluded for the year.

Guest Policy: The Board of Directors has graciously agreed to relax the guest policy for the remainder of the 2011 season. This means that accompanied guests are permitted to play anytime the hosting member can play. Additionally, the restriction of four (4) visits per In-Town guest has been lifted for the remainder of the year. So bring out guests anytime and ENJOY the remaining beautiful days for golf.

Weekend Tee Times: Though we don’t anticipate an overwhelming amount of play, we will continue to accept weekend tee times to assist you in planning your day. Please be aware that Saturday times are available starting at 9am on the Thursday prior, while Sunday times become available at 10am the Thursday prior. As the daylight begins to arrive later and later, we will be adjusting the starting times accordingly in an effort to allow the grounds staff to keep ahead of the golfers.

Dress Code: The Board of Directors has graciously agreed to relax the golf course Dress Code for the remainder of the 2011 season. This means that the wearing of blue jeans (i.e. heavy denim) will now be permitted starting immediately. ENJOY!

Course Care: Though the 2011 golf season is winding down, it does not mean that golfers can dispose of their responsibility to take care of the course. It is still extremely important to properly repair ball marks and sand fill divots. Additionally, the month of October brings with it the inherent possibility of morning frost. When frost is present, be sure not to drive or walk on turf-grass as the likelihood of damage to a frost covered grass plant is very high.

The use of electric carts in the fall season is another area for concern. Please be cautious about quick starts and stops, as well as sharp turns that may provide damage to this finely mowed area of the course.

Most members of LFCC take great pride in the course, following these simple steps will assist in keeping your course beautiful and provide the best possible playing surfaces throughout the season.

Golf Outings: LFCC is a wonderful venue for a business, charity or general golf outing. With an exceptional golf course, delicious food and a dedication to outstanding customer service, I’m confident that you would be proud to host an outing at LFCC in 2012.

If you serve on an event committee, or know of anyone that does, please spread the word that LFCC is currently booking outing dates for 2012. We would love to help you arrange a very special day of golf, food and FUN.

Lockers: If you are interested in a locker in the Men’s or Women’s locker room, please contact me ASAP for details. We currently have a few lockers available in each of the respective locker rooms.

In closing, the Fall season is a most beautiful time of the year to enjoy a few more rounds of golf with family and friends. Your Club provides the ideal venue for you to entertain, enjoy great golf, delicious food and a staff dedicated to providing an excellent experience.

News from the Golf Shop………

With the Labor Day weekend just around the corner, I ask, where did the summer go? I don’t remember any two months going by faster than this July and August.

Congratulations to: Ed Wagner tops the list this month with his Ace, holing out on #16. Lifetime lows were recorded by; Patti Bolton (84), and John Dabrowski (37) on the front 9 and Laurel Tucker recorded her lifetime low round (83) during the recent Hullabaloo.

Clayton Parkhill notched a record tying fifth Twin City Tournament victory posting rounds of 67-70-71 for a seven under par 54-hole total. Clayton etched his place in Twin City history as only the third player to achieve five victories, Bill Richart and Cy Vaughn also accomplished this rare feat. Clayton has accomplished this over a period of just seven years.

Steve Wanzek outlasted B J Stipes in the final match of the summer-long President’s Cup match play. At the recent Steve Stricker Golf Classic, LFCC was well represented, boasting top honors in the net division. Those honors belong to the team of Matt Everette, Joe McCoskey, Al Mitchell and B J Stipes competing on the North Course at Olympia Fields CC. Way to go guys!

A hearty thank you is also in order for the numerous golfers that participated in and supported the many events throughout the summer. We’re sincerely grateful that you took pride in your Club as well as took advantage of the opportunity to meet some of your fellow members. After all, socializing with your fellow members is what a unified Club is all about.

I would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank the members of the golf committee for their numerous hours of volunteer work, balancing the calendar of events promoting the various programs and supporting and guiding me through another busy season. I tip my cap to; Mike Zopf (Chair), Jo Anderson, Debbie Grill, Doris Higgins, Mark Miller, John Petersen, Sue Peterson, Craig Vedvik and Steve Wanzek. THANK YOU!

The Board of Directors is also to be thanked for their leadership and guidance through such tumultuous financial times. The Board works tirelessly (and often thanklessly) in an effort to make your Club the most enjoyable and efficient it can be.

I would also like to thank Dan Rock, Dave Keeling and Art Warren for their efforts in bringing the Pickle Invitational back to LFCC (where it belongs). Many thanks gentlemen!

Men’s League golfers: We have concluded the first 20 weeks of the season, now for the last four weeks. All four Wednesday’s in September (7^th, 14^th, 21^st & 28^th) will be 4:30p shotgun starts, with play from the “hybrid” tees. Teams will be playing against there respective team numbers in the other three divisions (i.e. Augusta National team #1 vs. Congressional team #1). Each team is scheduled three of the four weeks using the following schedule:

Sept. 7^th – All teams #1-12 play – 4:30p shotgun start

Sept. 14^th – All teams#1-8 & 13-16 play – 4:30p shotgun start

Sept. 21^st – All teams #1-4 & 9-16 play – 4:30p shotgun start

Sept. 28^th – All teams #5-16 play – 4:30p shotgun start

Your TEAM # determines the nights you play, NOT the order of finish for weeks 1-20. Also, substitutes ARE permitted during these last four weeks. It is going to be a lot of FUN, hope to see you Wednesday nights. Subs, let us know if you are available, there will be plenty of opportunities to play.

Junior Golfers: Speaking on behalf of the golf professionals, we thoroughly enjoyed our summer with you. You made us laugh, cringe and often say nice going after an exceptional shot. It was delightful assisting in the progression of your golf skills and understanding of the game. With that said, many of you were not able to attend the season ending Junior Sports banquet. If you missed it, please make a point of stopping by the Golf Shop to pick up your program favor and any trophies you may have won. We can only hope you enjoyed the program as much as we did administering it.

Course Closures: The course will be closed in its entirety on Tuesday September 6^th as the grounds maintenance staff begins its fall aerification efforts. During the month of September, the Grounds staff performs a significant amount of seasonal maintenance (i.e. aerification of greens, tees, fairways as well as re-seeding of stressed or burned out areas). As a result, there will be times in which a segment of the course may be closed to play, however, it shouldn’t impact more than three to six holes at a time. We will do our best to communicate with Course Superintendent Werner as to which holes will be impacted on a daily basis. Much of this important work revolves around course wetness and daily weather, so on some days it may be more difficult to project than on others. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this period of possible disruption.

On Monday October 3^rd, LFCC will be hosting the Special Olympics golf outing. Anyone interested in hosting a foursome should contact Becky Beach for additional details.

Course Care: As September arrives, I would like to remind you that your responsibility as golfers does not diminish with the change of seasons. Repairing ball marks, sanding divots and operating your golf carts in a responsible manner is still very important. Yes, the grounds staff will be spending much of the month repairing/renovating many areas of the course, but that doesn’t mean you should spend any less time taking care of the Club’s number one asset (the golf course).

“Mean 18”: This annual favorite is scheduled for Friday, October 7^th and will feature use of six new championship tees (#6, #9, #11, #12, #14 & #15). The format is a pure scramble with Gross and Net Divisions. Sign-ups will be limited to member only foursomes through September 15^th, thereafter, foursomes with guests will be welcome to sign-up.

This year’s event will have some additional wrinkles to be announced in coming weeks. For now, just be sure to get signed up promptly as I’m confident this will again sell out early.

Fall Member-Guest: Scheduled for Friday, October 14^th, this end of the season event is usually a sell-out. With just a $35 per team entry fee, I’m confident that you will be able to host a guest and come out and ENJOY one last event this year. The format will be a One Best Net Ball of the twosome, with various flights determined by team handicaps. Men & Women welcome to participate, don’t delay, sign-ups are limited to the first 44 two-player teams.

The fall season is one of the most enjoyable for golf, so be sure to plan time to get out and ENJOY the spender of the season and one of the areas best courses (LFCC).

August Golf Shop newsletter '11

News from the Golf Shop…….

Well, I guess we would be disappointed if the summer temperatures were not in the low to mid 90’s or higher, but a little less humidity would be awesome. That said, thanks to the best maintenance staff in central Illinois, the course is still in fantastic condition. Way to go grounds staff………..

As you can imagine, the extreme heat and humidity have taken their toll on the grounds, golf, pool and tennis staffs. It has been difficult at best to get excited about spending countless hours outside, not to mention performing manual labor. With a little luck, maybe there will be a bit of relief to the high temps in the near future. Until then, hang in there, it’s still better than shoveling snow!

Congratulations to: Tom Malee heads the list of accolades this month with an exceptional round of 69. This was a lifetime low for Tom, and maybe a course record from the White Tees. Jackie Barkmeier also carded her lifetime low round, posting a very sporty round of 84. Traci Logue carded her lifetime low round (94), while Michael Kehl and Cathy Gorman carded a lifetime low front nine scores, 36 and 39 respectively. Newcomer to the game Jen Reger posted the first par (hole #4) of her short golf career while Ryan Hunt hit the proverbial perfect shot on hole #11 recording a hole-in-one. Congrats to all for your accomplishments!

Share the News: If you or one of your fellow members has a golfing accomplishment, we would like to hear about it. Each month we have dedicated a segment of the newsletter to golf accomplishments, heroics or just special moments. Hole-In-Ones, lifetime lows, holing out from the fairway (or elsewhere) or tournament accomplishments. These and many more are what we are looking for to share with the membership.

Thank You: A big THANK YOU to all that have participated in the numerous LFCC events so far this season. It has been a good season for our events, especially Nine & Dine. I can only hope you have enjoyed the experience(s) as much as we have enjoyed administering them. After all, the success of our events revolves around you, the membership. We look forward to your continued support and participation in the upcoming Club Championships and Hullabaloo.

I would also like to thank the numerous parents, siblings and babysitters that provided a safe and enjoyable environment for this year’s junior golfers while they toured the course. After all, without the dozens of gracious souls, we could not have had such a wonderful and safe time with the kids. I hope the kids provided you with as much fun as you did them. These kids sure are special!

Also, thank you for the outpouring of caring and encouragement shown while I nurse a broken toe back to health. Your support has helped me fight through the impatience I am experiencing with the time needed for proper healing. As you can imagine, slowing down at this time of the year just isn’t in my DNA. And yes, I was told to “stay off your feet”, sorry not possible this time of year.

Finally, many thanks to the fourteen ladies that represented LFCC in the recent Women’s Twin City, the 75^th anniversary edition of this great event.

Saturday August 6^th & Sunday August 7^th: The Men’s Twin City will be played at CCC on Saturday August 6th. As a result, LFCC will be hosting members from Champaign CC on this day. We will be implementing the “holiday tee time policy”, meaning all tee times between 7am-Noon are available for reservation. With players from two clubs vying for the tee times, I would encourage all groups to make a tee time in advance. Tee times for Saturday August 6^th become available at 9am on Thursday August 4^th.

Sunday August 7^th LFCC will be hosting the final round of the Men’s Twin City. As a result, the course will be closed until approximately 3pm. With LFCC hosting, you have the one-time opportunity to play at Champaign CC or Urbana CC on August 7^th. This is the one-time you may call and make your own arrangements. Both facilities would appreciate advance notice of your arrival

Mixed Partner Challenge: The Mixed Partner Challenge committee has extended the deadline for matches through the end of August. This will provide you the opportunity to schedule a few more matches (if needed). Additionally, there will be a season ending banquet sometime in September to reminisce about all the FUN that was had. Date and time to be determined.

Course Closures: The golf course will be closed to general play the following days & times:

Sunday August 7^th until approximately 3pm as LFCC hosts the final round of the Men’s Twin City tournament. The course will be closed Thursday August 18^th from 12:30p to 6:00p as we host the Pickle Invitational. Finally, the course will be closed to non-participants Saturday & Sunday August 27^th & 28^th until 3pm as the Hullabaloo takes center stage.

Club Championships: Scheduled for Saturday & Sunday August 13^th & 14^th, this year’s event will be a 36-hole stroke play competition. Players will be flighted based upon their handicaps as of August 1^st. Players also has the opportunity to move up one flight prior to the sign-up deadline of August 11^th. Male players age 55 and over may elect to participate in the Senior Flight. Please be aware, the nines will be reversed for both rounds of the Club Championships. This means all club championship play will begin on hole #10.

Play for the various flights will be as follows:

Ladies Flights: Red Tees

Men’s Senior Flight: White Tees

Men’s Championship Flight: Black Tees

All remaining Men’s Flights: Blue Tees

Advanced registration is required for the Club Championships. The sign-ups deadline is Wednesday August 11^th so that we may reserve the appropriate number of tee times for the event. Show pride in your Club, sign-up today!

Hullabaloo 2011: The premiere event of the season is near at hand. Though it may seem a long way off, the team drawing for the 2011 Hullabaloo is just a short three weeks away. The team drawing kicks off 10 days of excitement and anticipation. I would also like to offer a friendly reminder that one of the eligibility requirements is that all players must have a minimum of (10) 18-hole rounds posted in 2011 by August 14^th. Please be aware that rounds containing combined nines will not count towards the 10 rounds needed for eligibility. Event information packets have been emailed to the membership and are also available online at: www.lfccgolf.com If you would like us to provide you with a hard copy of the information, please give us a call. The “early bird” sign-up discount ends on August 7^th, don’t delay, you can save $15 on your entry fee.

Once again, we will be soliciting support in the form of Hole Sponsorships. This is a great way to promote a local business and show your support for our premiere event of the year. For a contribution of $100, you will receive two days of promotional signage, in addition to verbal advertising during various segments of the event (including the awards ceremony).

In addition to the Hullabaloo activities, on Saturday August 27^th we will be holding the Memorial Cup finals contest with cash prizes. Read more about it in the Memorial Cup section of this newsletter.

Memorial Cup: Individuals have been collecting points throughout the summer for various events. The season long Memorial Cup points chase comes to an end on Saturday August 27^th, following the Hullabaloo activities. Men accumulating 29 points and women accumulating 27 points automatically qualify for the finals and a chance to win cash prizes. The finals will be a short game contest in which automatic qualifiers will have a single shot at earning cash payouts. This contest will take place immediately following all Hullabaloo activities.

The Memorial Cup points list is posted on the Activities/Events Board adjacent to the locker rooms. The list is alphabetical to make it easy to find your name, hope you are in range of meeting the qualifying points needed to dash for the cash.

News Updates from the Golf Shop: Again this season, all updates from the golf shop, including newsletters, course updates, standings, and more are posted to a feed that you can subscribe to and receive in a reader or email form. To do this, visit http://www.lfccgolf.com/ and click on “subscribe”. Signing up for this service will allow you to get valuable information and event results in a prompt manner. Make sure that you activate your subscription and enjoy another product of today’s tech environment.

Golf Calendar: Thank goodness for technology and being able to keep up with it. LFCC Golf is now uses a Google Calendar. You may view it at http://www.lfccgolf.com/cal.html. I have and will continue to update this as changes to the golf calendar take place. This also has feed availability to sync with your phone, calendar or reader. You will need to consult the instructions for these items to find out how to subscribe.

Reciprocal Play: Just a reminder that LFCC has reciprocal arrangements with nine area courses. Our reciprocal arrangements provide LFCC members the opportunity to play at other fine area courses Tuesday-Friday without green fees (cart fees will be charged where applicable). Please be aware that if you are hosting guests during reciprocal visits the normal green fee rates apply for all guests. Also, there are some limitations as to availability of times at the various facilities. Please contact Tim, Becky or Kyle for further details.

The nine facilities include:

Crestwicke CC in Bloomington, Effingham CC in Effingham, Kankakee CC in Kankakee, Mattoon CC in Mattoon, South Side CC in Decatur, Panther Creek CC in Springfield, Pekin CC in Pekin, Mt. Hawley CC in Peoria and Urbana Golf & CC in Urbana.

Becky’s Mystery Bus Trip: Scheduled for Thursday, August 4^th, this year’s event is sure to be everything the previous years have been, if not better. As in the past, “what happens on the Mystery Trip, stays on the Mystery Trip”. Please contact Becky directly for more information or to sign-up.

Junior Sports Banquet: Scheduled for Sunday, August 21^st, this annual favorite culminates by celebrating the accomplishments of our sensational juniors in the tennis, swimming and golf programs. All of the kids are special, that fact has never been in question, I only hope you will join us as we recognize and celebrate the many successes these great kids have achieved. There will be numerous trophies distributed to our Junior Championship winners, as well as a variety of door prizes, not to mention some delicious food from the Chef.

Dinner is scheduled for 5pm, with the awards ceremony to follow. Reservations are requested and appreciated. Hope to see you there!

Labor Day Tee Times: On Monday, September 5^th, we will be using our “holiday tee time” policy. This means that all tee times between 7am and Noon are available for reservation to groups of three or four. These holiday tee times become available starting at 10am on Thursday September 1^st. Please be aware that all these tee times are available, however, they may not all be reserved. If you have a group of two or less and would still like to play that morning, please contact us for details.

Patriot Day Fundraiser: Scheduled for September 3^rd-5^th, we will be hosting a fundraising program dedicated to providing families of fallen military members scholarship opportunities. I’m confident in saying that this is the least we can do for those families making the ultimate sacrifice for this great country. Please join me in donating generously towards this worthy cause. All proceeds will be forwarded to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Contributions are totally voluntary and anonymous. Last year we were able to contribute almost $500.

Save the Date: Saturday September 17^th, Illinois football is scheduled to host Arizona St. at Memorial Stadium. LFCC will be hosting a member appreciation tailgate. This event has become an annual favorite thanks to great food, membership camaraderie and Illini pride. Look for more details in coming weeks.

Show off your Club: During the year, I hear many comments about the wonderful course and food here at LFCC. If you are one of the many members that take great pride in LFCC, I encourage you to include your family and friends during your visits to the Club. With the fiscal year winding down, I encourage you to bring friends (guests) to the Club to enjoy the good times with you. If each member brought out just one guest each month, the Club would be well on its way to a sound financial finish to the year.

LFCC has much to be proud of, great golf, great food, great people and an environment ideal for entertainment or enjoying leisure time. I know first hand the pride our members have in their Club, now is the time to share that pride with family, friends and clients. Thank you in advance for making LFCC a wonderful place to be.

July Golf Shop newsletter '11

News from the Golf Shop…………

Well, it’s official, summer has finally arrived and the temperatures are showing it. All facets of the Club are showing strong activity levels.

Congratulations: This month’s highlights include two Hole-In-Ones; Paul Kane sank a 7 wood on hole #4 from 170 yards and Mike Hedge holed an approach wedge on hole #16 from 122 yards. Clayton Parkhill carded an LFCC low round of 65, while Dave Johnson (83), Dennis McMillan (81), Bob Young (79) and Michael Kehl (36 on the front 9) all posted lifetime lows. Kudos also to Stu Shapiro for his eagle 2 on hole #1 and Race Racioppi who holed his second on hole #18 for an eagle 2 (during our Member-Guest). Luke Kelton, age 10 carded a par on Hole #4, ho hum, even a child can do it! Congratulations to all………..

This just in: Congratulations to Mike Small for placing tied for 8^th in the PGA Professional National Championship. This earned him a spot in the upcoming PGA Championship to be played at Atlanta Athletic Club. Way to go Mike!

LFCC was well represented at the recent Don Moyer Boys and Girls outing played at Lake of the Woods Golf Course. The quartet of Jo Anderson, Debbie Grill, Cheryl Rushing and Cindy Schilling won the ladies segment, while Clayton and John Parkhill comprised half of the winning men’s team.

The team of Dave Keeling and Zach Guthrie outlasted three other teams in a lengthy shootout to win the recent Member-Guest. The victory was their second in consecutive years.

4^th of July Weekend: Tee times for Saturday may be made beginning Thursday morning June 30^th at 9am, tee times for Sunday & Monday become available Thursday morning at 10am. It will be a very active weekend on the golf course so I would encourage tee times if at all possible.

On Monday July 4^th, we will be holding our annual Firecracker Open event. This event combines play from multiple teeing areas as follows: ladies will be playing 9 holes from the White Tees and 9 holes from the Red tees. Men will be playing 6 holes from each of the White, Blue and Black tees. The format will include Two Net Best Balls of the foursome. This is an optional event as you tee off.

Nine & Dine: The Nine & Dine season is in full swing, and if the first several weeks are any indication, it is going to be a very active and enjoyable rest of the Friday night Nine & Dine season. However, make no mistake, Nine & Dine is available to individual players as well as couples. With 9 holes of golf followed by great food, good spirits and excellent camaraderie, what are you waiting for? Sign-ups are limited to the first 44 golfers each evening. There will be five opportunities in July to enjoy Nine & Dine, Friday 1^st, 8^th, 15^th, 22^nd and 29^th.

Sign-ups are available either in the Golf Shop, or on the Events/Activities Board adjacent to the locker rooms.

Junior Golfers: The Board of Directors has approved an extension of last season’s junior green fee special. Juniors ages 10 through 16 are permitted to host a guest age 10 to 16 to a complimentary round of golf on non-holiday weekdays. This initiative is being provided to encourage golf with friends at LFCC. Please be aware that In-Town guests are limited to four visits during the season regardless of which member hosts them. All age specific Club rules apply to the available times for play.

Parent-Child Event: Scheduled for Sunday July 24^th, this annual favorite welcomes teams of Mother-Daughter, Father-Son, Mother-Son, Father-Daughter and surrogate-child playing 9-holes of alternate shot. This event has become a favorite of many and is sure to find the participants in some unusual situations throughout the round. The use of strategy during the round may lead to additional strokes played. Advanced sign-ups required so as to make sure everyone is allocated a spot on the course.

Course & Range Closures: Tuesday July 19^th, the course will be closed for most of the morning as LFCC hosts the first round of the Women’s Twin City Tournament. This year the event will be celebrating its 75^th anniversary. Please contact the Golf Shop for more details.

The Front 9 will be closed on Sunday July 24^th from 3:30-5:30p as the annual Parent-Child event takes center stage. Also, the course and driving range will be closed on Sunday August 7^th until approximately 3pm as LFCC hosts the Men’s Twin City Tournament.

Thursday August 18^th, LFCC will be hosting the Pickle Invitational event. Scheduled for a 1pm shotgun start, the course will remain closed until approximately 6pm.

Saturday July 30^th & Saturday August 6^th: The Men’s Twin City will be played at Urbana CC on July 30^th and Champaign CC on August 6^th. As a result, members from the Club hosting the event will have the opportunity to play either of the other clubs that day. LFCC will be implementing the “holiday tee time policy” for these two days meaning all tee times between 7am-Noon are available for reservation. With players from two clubs vying for the tee times, I would encourage all groups to make a tee time in advance.

Sunday August 7^th: LFCC will be hosting the final round of the Men’s Twin City tournament. As a result, the course and range will be closed for until approximately 3pm to non-participants. However, LFCC members may play at Champaign CC or Urbana CC due to LFCC being closed. This is the one time a year in which you may make your own tee time at either of the other clubs. Champaign CC golf shop 356-1255, Urbana CC golf shop 344-8673.

Club Championships: Scheduled for Saturday & Sunday August 13^th & 14^th, this year’s event will played using a 36-hole stroke play format. Players will be flighted based upon their handicaps as of August 1^st. Male players age 55 and over may elect to participate in the Senior Flight where play will be from the White Tees. Play for the various flights will be as follows:

Ladies Flights: Red Tees

Men’s Senior Flight: White Tees

Men’s Championship Flight: Black Tees

All remaining Men’s Flights: Blue Tees

Advanced registration required for all Club Championship flights. Deadline for sign-ups, Wednesday August 10^th. Show pride in your Club, sign-up today!

Hullabaloo 2011: Though it may seem a long way off, the team drawing for the 2011 Hullabaloo is just a short seven weeks away. Just a friendly reminder, eligibility requirements for the Hullabaloo require all players to have a minimum of 10 rounds posted in 2011 by August 14^th. Please be aware that rounds containing combined nines will not count towards the 10 rounds required for eligibility. Event information packets are scheduled to be sent out electronically on July 21^st .

Also, once again, we will be soliciting support for Hole Sponsorships. This is a great way to promote a local business and show your support for our premiere event of the year. Watch for more information regarding this opportunity in the coming weeks.

New Event Scheduled: The very popular Pickle Invitational will be heading home to LFCC, scheduled for Thursday August 18^th. This event pays tribute to our fallen friend Mike Dill, past LFCC grounds chairman and LFCC board member. Mike’s memory and spirit live on through hundreds of family, friends and acquaintances. The event kicks off with a 1pm shotgun start and will take up the entire course for about 5 hours.

Course Etiquette: With temperatures on the rise, now more than ever, it is important to utilize the carts paths whenever possible. Please be sure to use the paths at all tees and greens, while varying your exit and entry points in an effort to reduce turf wear and fatigue. Fast starts, abrupt stops and sharp turns in the fairway also put unnecessary stress on the turf. Additionally, the use of multiple single rider carts in groups of two players or more is strongly discouraged. The additional wear and tear on the course is especially severe during the hot, dry periods of the summer. It would be greatly appreciated if players would pair up and minimize the additional stress to the turf areas.

We need your help! Ball marks are again compromising the quality of our greens. A properly repaired ball mark takes only seconds to repair, however, improperly or neglected ball marks take weeks to heel. With the simple use of a tee or repair tool, you too can make a big difference in the condition and appearance of our putting surfaces. Thank you in advance for your efforts and pride in your course.

The LFCC grounds maintenance staff takes great pride in the condition of your course, please do your part in keeping it looking and playing its best. If we all chip in, we will keep one of the best courses in central Illinois in tip, top shape.

News Updates from the Golf Shop: Starting this season all updates from the golf shop, including newsletters, course updates, standings, and more, will be posted to a feed that you can subscribe to and receive in a reader or email. To do this, visit http://www.lfccgolf.com/ and subscribe under "Golf News". Signing up for this service will allow you to get valuable information and event results in a prompt manner. Make sure that you activate your subscription.

Golf Calendar: Thank goodness for technology and being able to keep up with it. LFCC Golf is now using a Google Calendar. You can see it at http://www.lfccgolf.com/cal.html. I have and will continue to update this. This also has feed availability to sync with your phone, calendar or reader. You will need to consult the instructions for these items to find out how to subscribe.

Reciprocal Play: I am pleased to announce that LFCC has secured the same nine reciprocal agreements we enjoyed last season. Once we have confirmed participation from the other clubs we will make an announcement via the Club email.

These reciprocal arrangements provide LFCC members the opportunity to play these other fine courses on non-holiday weekdays (Tuesday-Friday) without green fees being charged. Please be aware that if you are hosting guests the usual guest fee rates will apply. Also, some limitations apply to the times available. Please contact Tim, Becky or Kyle for further details.

Guest Play: With the course in tip-top shape, there is no better time to show off your wonderful facility than now. As a result of the numerous inclement weather days this spring, we could sure use a boost to the bottom line. With just a $50 Green Fee, I’m confident that your guest(s) will enjoy their day at LFCC. Also, we would appreciate a call in advance so that we can provide all the little touches that make a visit to LFCC special.

News from the Golf Shop…….

With the temperatures starting to heat up, LFCC is bubbling with activity. Golfers, swimmers, tennis players and dinners are finding the friendly confines of LFCC to be an excellent venue for their favorite pastime.

The course is in exceptional condition thanks to the dedicated efforts of our Grounds Maintenance staff. I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy a few rounds this spring in between the numerous storms.

Congratulations to: Dave Chatterton tops the list this month with a Hole-in-One on #4. A smooth six iron resulting in a most memorable moment. Other highlights, birdies galore: Jackie Barkmeier #7, Jo Dupre’ #11, Barb Miller #11, Candy Rollins #11, Laurel Tucker #11, Ellie Tracy #10 and Ann Wellinghoff #5. Congratulations all!

Congratulations are also in order for Fighting Illini Men’s Golf Coach, Mike Small, who was honored as the Big Ten Coach of the Year. The team notched its third straight Big Ten title and recently placed 2^nd in the NCAA Championship qualifying at Wolf Run (Carmel, IN). Best of luck to the Illini as they represent in the NCAA Championships.

This just in, Jeff Miller blistered the course in route to his LFCC lifetime low round posting a score of 69. Steve Wanzek also carded an outstanding round of even par 72. Wow, great playing Jeff & Steve!

Thank You: A big thank you to all that have participated in our various golf events. It is your participation that makes our events successful. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than to see our golfers having such a good time at our events. Keep up the good work!

Last Call: We are in the process of finalizing all the details for this year’s Junior Golf program. We ask that all sign-ups be completed by Friday June 3^rd. Assembling the age and gender groups require a complete sign-up prior to finalization. Please let us know ASAP if you would like your child included in this very popular program. Each week consists of a different area of instruction, followed by a rules and etiquette session and then on to the golf course for play.

Ladies Instruction: This five-week series of one-hour group lessons combines, game improving lessons, the fellowship of other LFCC golfers and the opportunity for a girl’s night out. We meet on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30p and finish up the golf instruction at approximately 6:30p. Many of the ladies will stay to enjoy dinner, a drink and camaraderie with the girls. Hope you find time in your schedule to join in on the FUN.

We’re offering another five-week series beginning on Tuesday June 7^th and running through Tuesday July 12^th. There are several openings in this second Series.

This five-week series is a tremendous value at just $75 for (5) one-hour lessons, not to mention a wonderful opportunity to improve your skills and enjoyment of the game.

Demo Days: As a result of the cancellation of the May 15^th Demo Day, we have made arrangements with Ping Golf & Tour Edge to return on Thursday June 2^nd from 3-7pm.

Additionally, Cobra Golf will be returning on Saturday June 11^th from 2-6pm. These Demo Days provide a tremendous opportunity to try out equipment with a variety of special shafts. Furthermore, custom fitting is always available for a more personal experience. Proper club fitting really does make a difference in the shot production your clubs provide you.

Two-Day Member-Guest: Scheduled for Friday & Saturday June 24^th & 25^th, this event combines great golf, great food and great camaraderie. With 45 holes of golf (27 Friday, 18 Saturday), Saturday afternoon Shootout, climaxed by the Gourmet dinner and awards presentation. This event provides so many enjoyable moments that it’s hard to imagine the wonderful time you and your guest will have until you experience it first hand.

Whether you are treating a friend, family member or just someone special to two days of complete pampering and lots of laughs. To sign-up or for additional information, contact the Golf Shop. Also, if you sign-up on or before June 5^th, you can save $30 on the entry fee.

Driving Range & Course Closures: The Driving Range will be closed from 5:30-6:30p on Tuesday June 14^th. If we experience inclement weather, we may need to change this date on the fly.

Friday mornings on June 10^th & 17^th, the driving range and golf course will be closed until Noon to accommodate our Junior Golf program.

Player’s Cup: Scheduled for Saturday & Sunday June 4^th & 5^th, this annual favorite combines two-player teams with four different nine-hole formats. Each of the four formats (Best Ball, Scramble, Alternate Shot and Aggregate Score) are played for nine-holes. Teams will be flighted by division based upon the total combined handicaps of the teammates. Advanced sign-ups are required on or before June 1^st. Tee times will be assigned with the first group teeing off at approximately 8:30a. (both days). This event is open to teams of men or women interested in having FUN.

4^th of July Weekend: As you might imagine, LFCC will be a very busy place July 2^nd-4^th. Tee times for Saturday July 2^nd become available on Thursday June 30^th at 9am, while tee times for Sunday July 3^rd and Monday July 4^th become available on Thursday June 30^th at 10am. Please be aware that on July 4^th we will be using the holiday tee time schedule. This means that all tee times between 7am and Noon are available for reservation, then we alternate between reservable and walk-up times through 3pm. This is not to say all times will be taken, just that all times are available for reservation. Tee times are strongly encouraged if you are planning to play over this three day weekend.

On Monday July 4^th, we will be offering our annual Firecracker Open event. This event combines play from three different sets of tees (Black, Blue & White) along with a two net best ball format. This is an optional event and we’ll touch base with each group prior to play.

Memorial Cup: Themed after the FedEx Cup, players are rewarded for participation in selected events throughout the season. Each of the selected events has been assigned a point value for your participation. Players will be accumulating points in an effort to qualify for a season ending contest to be held following the first round of the Hullabaloo, scheduled for Saturday, August 27^th. Automatic qualifiers will be competing for cash payouts.

A list of the selected qualifying events, their point values and how many points are needed to qualify may be viewed on the LFCCgolf.com website, as well as Events/Activities Board located in the hallway outside of the men’s and women’s locker rooms.

Golf Event & Activities Board: Located on the lower level of the clubhouse in the hallway leading back to the locker rooms, this area serves as the hub for all golf related information, results, event sign-ups, etc. Please make a habit of checking this board on a regular basis to stay current on all the latest golf news, notes and event signups.

Etiquette: It is becoming increasingly troubling that numerous golfers have decided that ball marks no longer need repairing. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you enjoy putting on smooth greens, take pride in your golf course and appreciate that a simple ten second task makes a difference. Thank you for caring. Proper repair of ball marks not only keeps greens smooth and enjoyable to putt, but it also prevents the unnecessary scars left behind that last for weeks.

As the summer months arrive, so does the issue of unauthorized use of the Club’s cart path system. Thanks to the forward thinking of the membership, we enjoy tee-to-green cart paths. However, there are many that are now utilizing our cart paths as a jogging trail, dog-walking path, bicycling trail and other unauthorized activities. These unauthorized activities are not permitted by Club Ground Rules, or by the Club’s insurance provider. If you are aware of any such activity, please contact the Golf Shop whenever possible. It is only through a group effort that we will be able to curtail this unauthorized use of our cart paths and golf course, furthering your enjoyment as golfers.

Also troubling are the increasing number of single rider carts when another single rider cart in the group exists. Though on the surface it appears as “no big deal”, however, as the temperatures rise, the increasing number of unnecessary tire tracks will ultimately overstress the turf and result in dead patches or weed-infiltrated surfaces. Again, I know you take great pride in your course, so please partner up with another rider whenever possible.

Lastly, it appears that some golfers believe that jumping in on an open hole on your way over to the Club doesn’t hurt anything. This is not only contrary to Club ground rules, it often results in the golf staff authorizing play of others directly into the path of the unauthorized players. Common courtesy aside, the potential of not knowing where a golfer is in times of a family emergency causes additional issues of its own. Please, check in at the Golf Shop before commencing play.

Golfer Responsibility: As you enjoy the beauty and tranquility of LFCC, please be aware that you are also responsible for your actions while on the course. It is the nature of the game to hit errant shots, however, when one of these errant shots damages the property of others it is time to take responsibility and step forward. Most homeowners understand the potential risk associated with living on a golf course, and furthermore realize that errant shots are part of the game. However, our gracious neighbors also expect that the perpetrators of these errant shots will do the right thing and notify the homeowners or Golf Shop of the mishap.

Please be respectful of our surrounding neighbors and their property.

Hullabaloo 2011: Though it is just early June, we want all golfers aware that our premiere event of the season carries eligibility requirements: a minimum of 10 18-hole scores posted in 2011 (excluding combined 9’s), a full golfing membership and the mindset that playing in the premiere event of the year should be FUN. Speaking on behalf of the Hullabaloo Committee, we look forward to seeing you participate in this annual extravaganza. Look for more information in the weeks to come.

Golf Instruction: As with many athletic endeavors, golf provides many challenges, most result in undesirable shots raising your score. If you are interested in getting a handle on your golf game, take the bull by the horns and schedule a lesson. Becky, Kyle and myself have a many years of experience in putting your game back on track. Remember, the game is supposed to be FUN, it’s not fun when the score is not what you expect it to be.

Plan Now: With the beginning of another season here at LFCC, I’m sure that you’re anxious to get back on the course. Since I’m sure you feel LFCC is the premiere course in central Illinois, take advantage of the opportunity to show it off. If you have a small group (28 or under) and would like to arrange to host them, please feel free to give me a call to discuss how we can help your group enjoy a day at the Club. LFCC offers a tremendous opportunity to entertain clients, co-workers or friends to a day of great golf, excellent food and plenty of FUN.

News from the Golf Shop…….

The season got off to a great start after one of the longest and snowiest winters in recent memory. In March, the course was firm and fast, thus far in April it has been a bit on the soft side thanks to the many April showers.

Thanks to the pride and dedication of our grounds staff, the course is already in peek condition, as well as a little help from Mother Nature.

Golf Event & Activities Board: Located on the lower level of the clubhouse in the hallway leading back to the locker rooms, this area will serve as the hub for all golf related information, results, event sign-ups, etc. Please make a habit of checking this board on a regular basis to stay current on all the latest golf news, notes and event signups.

I will try to provide a timely and complete answer or confirmation of your sign-up (if applicable). With a busy summer ahead, staying informed will surely be helpful!

Congratulations to: This area is usually reserved for special golf heroics; hole-in-ones, lifetime lows, eagles, etc., however, this year we have yet to have any of those items shared with us.

If you have a golfing accomplishment you would like to share with your fellow members via the newsletter, please let me know and I will add it to my column. Hole-In-Ones, eagles, birdies (if they are rare for you), lifetime lows, anything that deserves a “thata way” is what I’m looking for. Please keep it clean; after all, this is a family newsletter.

Thank You: Thanks to those of you that attempted to help us kick-off the season in the Spring Fling. Both attempts were weathered out, I hope this is not a sign of things to come. The good news, those of you signed up for either of the dates (April 16^th or 23^rd) will receive the 3 Memorial Cup points for this event.

New Scorecards: I’m delighted to officially announce the arrival of our new scorecards. In addition to the new graphics, you will also see a new course listed as “Hybrid”. This course offers play from a combination Blue and White teeing grounds. The “Hybrid course” combines play of twelve holes played from the Blue Tees along with six holes from the White Tees with a total yardage of 6,068 yards. Just follow the color coded listings as you see them on the new scorecards. If you would like to play a bit tamer course, or are just looking for a change of pace, the Hybrid course is sure to fit the niche. Best of all, it is a postable round, just select Hybrid listed in the tees played selection on the handicap computer.

Hole-In-One Club: As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the Hole-In-One Club is in full swing. To date we have approximately 60 members signed up and that number is sure to climb as we enter the Men’s and Women’s League seasons. See the sign-up board on the east Golf Shop window for complete details.

As a member of the Hole-In-One Club, you could be a recipient of $10 from each player signed up for the program. Any Hole-In-One Club member that records a Hole-In-One at LFCC during an 18 hole round (or 9 hole “league” round) with another LFCC member present will receive $10 from each of the other Hole-In-One Club members. A Hole-In-One is always an exciting accomplishment, however, being part of the Hole-In-One Club can make it even sweeter. Take dead aim, fire at the flag and be sure you are on the list. After all, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the payday!

Ladies Instruction: This five-week series of one-hour group lessons combines game improving lessons, the fellowship of other LFCC golfers and the opportunity for a girl’s night out. We meet on Tuesday evenings starting at 5:30p and finish up the golf instruction at approximately 6:30p. Many of the ladies will stay to enjoy dinner, a drink and camaraderie with the girls. Hope you find time in your schedule to join in on the FUN.

We’re offering two five-week series this year. Series (1) began on Tuesday April 26^th and runs through Tuesday May 24^th(a few spots still available). Series (2) begins on Tuesday June 15^th and runs through Tuesday July 15^th. There are several openings in Series (2).

Each five-week series is a tremendous value at just $75 for (5) one-hour lessons.

Demo Day: During the month of May we have two Demo Days scheduled. The first on Saturday May 14^th from 2-6pm. We will be hosting representatives from: Cleveland Golf and Srixon. The second takes place Sunday, May 15^th when we host representatives from Cobra and Ping. These four companies will have all their “latest and greatest” equipment available for you to test drive.

Demo Days provide a valuable opportunity to test and compare products from various companies before making the decision to purchase. They also provide you the chance to try out various exotic shafts, ask technical questions and are a must for lefties. Best of all, it’s FREE! Share the news, bring a friend.

Checkered Flag Event: Scheduled for Saturday May 21^st, this annual favorite combines a unique scoring format and great camaraderie with your fellow members.

We will be using the following format: one net ball score on the Par 3’s, two net best balls on the Par 4’s and three net best balls on the Par 5’s.

The event is open to men’s and women’s foursomes and kickoffs off with an 8:30a shotgun. Sign-ups are open to foursomes as well as singles. You can either put together your favorite foursome, or if you don’t have a regular group but would like to play, sign-up as a single and we’ll put together a group for you. Sign-up today to reserve your spot in the 96-player field. The entry fee will be $15 per person.

Trade-Ins: Once again, I’m happy to announce that trade-ins are being accepted when purchasing new clubs at the LFCC Golf Shop. Trade-In values will be determined by the listings at: www.pga.com/valueguide

Please be aware that not all clubs will qualify for a trade-in. Clubs not listed on the Value Guide may not qualify.

Mother’s Day & Father’s Day Special: A decision has been made to amend the In-Town Guest Policy permitting immediate family members the opportunity to play as guests before Noon (as stated in the Club policies). This policy change applies only to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Memorial Cup: It is themed after the FedEx Cup, with players being rewarded for participation in selected events throughout the season. Each of the selected events has been assigned a point value for your participation. Players will be accumulating points in an effort to qualify for a season ending contest to be held following the first round of the Hullabaloo, scheduled for Saturday, August 27^th.

A list of the selected qualifying events, their point values and how many points are needed to qualify may be viewed on the lfccgolf.com website, as well as the Events/Activities Board. This year we will be competing for $1,000 in cash payouts.

Nine and Dine: The Couples Golf committee would like to introduce opportunities to come out and play golf and socialize with other members.

First, we invite golfers of all skill levels to join us on Friday evenings at 5:30 p.m. for Nine and Dine, formerly known as Twilight Golf. You may sign-up for these evenings as a single, a couple or foursomes. Individuals and couples will be paired into foursomes by the Golf Shop. The weekly format will consist of three holes of scramble, three holes of best ball and three holes of alternate shot. Golf will be followed by a casual dinner (usually under the tent with varying themes). Members are encouraged to invite non-golfing spouses or friends to join them for dinner after golf.

These evenings are meant to stress ENJOYMENT and de-emphasize the competition. Golfers of all abilities are encouraged to join in on the FUN. Our first evening is Friday, May 27^th. The fee is $5 per person, dinner additional. On May 27^th, Chef Chris will be showcasing his very popular sheet pan pizza. Please call the Golf Shop to sign-up and indicate if others will be joining you for dinner. What better way to get the weekend started a bit early!

Early Morning Golf: Starting in April and running through August, the course will be available for early play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Members may begin play starting as early as 6:30a on one designated nine holes. Hopefully, this will provide you the opportunity to play a few more rounds this season. What could be better than 9 holes before work? Okay, I guess not having to go to work, but until then, come out and enjoy a few holes and start your day with a little fresh air.

Please be aware that you will still need to check the course status board (outside the Golf Shop) to see what the course rules are for the day. Also, only one nine will be open for early play; one of the nines will have a sign directing you to play the other nine. Additionally, please be aware that the Club rental carts will not be available until the traditional starting time of 8am. If you have a private cart, or enjoy walking when you play, this early morning opportunity is for you.

Junior Golf Sign-up: Scheduled for Sunday, May 1^st from 3pm to 5pm, the Youth Sports Sign-up will kickoff another year of FUN with our Junior Golf program here at LFCC. The Friday morning program starts on June 10^th and will continue each Friday (excluding June 24^th) through July 29^th. During the program, we will be focusing on the fundamentals of the swing, short game and rules and general etiquette.

Eligibility for the program requires that the child has completed first grade and not graduated from high school. The fee for the seven-week program is $65 per child.

Men’s Wednesday Night League: It’s the time of year we’ve all been waiting for, another season of Men’s League is underway. The season kickoff took place on April 20^th and it was a cold night. The stories sound the same as years past; I can’t believe I missed that putt, if only my drive didn’t end up behind that tree, if only I hadn’t gotten that bad bounce, my putter had an off night. Regardless of the play, the one constant is that each league night player is glad to be here (at LFCC) rather than still at work or on the road. If you are interested in playing as a sub, please contact the Golf Shop for further information.

President’s Cup: Sign-ups are now being accepted for the President’s Cup match play. Fields Match Play: The Fields Match Play is similar to the President’s Cup yet is played by two-man teams. It is also a single elimination match play event but is played as a better ball of pairs. Handicap strokes are allocated based upon the lowest handicap(s) in the group reduced to scratch and the remaining players receiving the difference. These matches will be given a three-week time frame in which to complete the match. Getting all four players together to play can sometimes be difficult, so it’s important to be flexible with your scheduling. Entry fee is $10 per player ($20 per team). Deadline for sign-ups is Sunday, May 8^th. Brackets will be posted in the hallway on the golf Events/Activities Board.

New Event – Mixed Partner Challenge: We are introducing a new event for couples, significant others or just friends. Below are some of the bullet points of the event with additional information available at the Golf Shop and on website: www.lfccgolf.com

Two-person teams consisting of two adult members of the opposite gender
Men play from hybrid tees, women from the red tees
Matches to be scheduled by the individual teams
9-Hole matches played in round robin format throughout the season
Divisions to be determined by combined team handicap
Handicaps will be netted off the lowest handicap player of each group
9 points possible per match. Holes won or halved based upon best net score

· Entry Fee $25 per team for prize pool

· Sign up by May 15^th

Spring Member-Guest: Scheduled for Friday, May 13^th, this informal one-day event will feature a One Net Best Ball of the twosome format and a 1:00p shotgun start. This event is open to men and women, and offers you an opportunity to host a friend, client or family member to an afternoon of FUN. The field will be broken down into divisions based upon total team handicap, and depending on the sign-ups will include men’s, women’s and possibly mixed teams. Entry fee is $30 per two-player team, with all entries being paid out in gift certificates. Sign-up today as I’m sure it will fill up fast.

For those individuals wishing to enjoy a bit of food before golf, there will be a delicious lunch buffet available beginning at 11:30a. Perfect for those wanting to get in and out in short order as well as those who have more time to enjoy.

Course & Range Closures: The course will be closed during the following times: Monday May 9^th until 6:00p (rain date May 16^th). Also, please be aware that the course and Golf Shop will be closed until Noon on Tuesday May 31^st following the holiday weekend. Clubhouse services will not be available on Tuesday, May 31^st. This has become general practice following a Monday holiday weekend.

Please be aware that the driving range will be closed during the following times.

Tuesday May 3^rd – 5:30p to 6:45p

Monday May 9^th – all day (private outing)

Tuesday May 25^th – 5:30p to 6:45p

Mondays (except for Memorial Day)

In addition to the previously mentioned closures, please be aware that when the tee line is on the lower tee and/or we experience a strong south wind, it may be necessary to limit the use of woods on the range. Thank you for your understanding regarding these occasional inconveniences.

Pace of Play: Pace of play is important to the overall enjoyment of a round of golf. Every player has the ability to positively affect the overall experience of a round of golf. Playing ready golf, taking an extra club when approaching your turn, tapping in short putts instead of marking, and scoring the previous hole on the following tee are just a few simple ways to improve pace of play. You may find a detailed article on the Events/Activities Board for many more time saving ideas.

Driving Range News: With a limited amount of grass tee area, plans are to use the mats two days each week to supplement the use of the grass tee line. Excluding extreme wetness, plans are not to use the mats on weekends or holidays.

Range Club programs (single, double & family) are still available. These programs provide unlimited use of the driving range during regular business hours through October. After all, practice helps breed the consistency we all strive for.

Memorial Day Tee Times: We will be using our Holiday Tee Time policy for Monday May 30^th (Memorial Day). This means that all tee times between 7:00a and Noon will be available for reservation. Walk-up tee times will begin at 12:10p and will alternate between reservable times until 3:00p when it changes to all walk-ups. These holiday tee times may be made starting at 10:00a on Thursday May 26^th. To reserve a tee time you will need at least three players in the group; if you are a single or twosome, give us a call and we will do everything we can to pair you up. Remember, this will be a very busy day at the Club and tee times are encouraged.

Golf Course Etiquette & Cart Rules: When enjoying a round of golf with the use of an electric cart, please remember that each golfer is responsible for following the posted daily rules regarding the use of golf carts. These daily golf cart rules are located on the status boards (on the outside east wall of the Golf Shop and folding board by the putting green). Also, please avoid fast stops, starts and sharp turns in the fairway that may lead to damage to the turf. We have a beautiful course, let’s work together to keep it the very best it can be.

Golfer Responsibility: As you enjoy the beauty and tranquility of LFCC, please be aware that you are also responsible for your actions while on the course. It is the nature of the game to hit errant shots, however, when one of these errant shots damages the property of others it is time to take responsibility and step forward. Most homeowners understand the potential risk associated with living on a golf course and furthermore realize that errant shots are part of the game. However, our gracious neighbors also expect that the perpetrators of these errant shots will do the right thing and notify the homeowners or Golf Shop of the mishap.

Please be respectful of our surrounding neighbors and their property.

Ladies 9 & 18-Hole Leagues: If you are looking to add a little FUN to your week, then the 9 & 18-Hole leagues might be for you. The 18-Hole League plays on Tuesday mornings while the 9-Hole League plays on Wednesday mornings. Each program combines a little competition, great camaraderie and lots of FUN. If you would like more information on either of these programs, please contact the Golf Shop, or the league chairs: 18-Holers (Jackie Barkmeier & Greta Siemsen), 9-Holers (Kim Hubbard & Peggy Prichard)).

The 18-Hole League begins on May 3^rd, while the 9-Hole League kickoff is on May 4^th.

Ladies Partner Challenge: The Partner Challenge is a two-player team event in which teams compete against other teams in a one low net best ball format. Teams may be comprised of any two LFCC ladies with current handicaps. Matches are to be played between May 4^th and September. 5^th. Matches are to be scheduled between the four players involved with a recommendation to play each of the other teams signed up for the event.

Each match consists of one point for each hole, with holes tied resulting in ½ point for each team. Points are accumulated for each of the matches played and the team with the highest point total in the qualifying number of matches is declared the event champion. Sign-up deadline for this event is May 3^rd. Contact the Golf Shop to sign-up for this enjoyable summer long event.

Player’s Cup: Scheduled for Saturday & Sunday June 4^th & 5^th, this annual favorite combines two-player teams with four different nine-hole formats. Each of the four formats (Best Ball, Scramble, Alternate Shot and Aggregate Score) is played for nine-holes. Teams are flighted by divisions based upon the total combined handicaps of the teammates. Advanced sign-ups are required on or before June 1^st. Tee times will be assigned with the first group teeing off at approximately 8:30a. (both days). This event is open to teams of men and women interested in having FUN.

Private Lessons: If you are looking to improve your game, become more consistent, learn to play better when it counts or just get more enjoyment out of your game, we can help. Becky, Kyle and myself will be glad to get your game back on track. Lessons can be made individually or as a series of four. Half-hour lessons are $35, while a series of four is just $120 (a $20 savings). Half-hour lessons for kids 16 and under are just $25. Take the first step, make the call that will put your game back on track. Lessons are by appointment only.

Two-Day Member-Guest: This year’s premiere guest event is scheduled for June 24^th & 25^th. The field is limited to the first 42 two-man teams. If you are interested please return your entry form as soon as possible. I’m happy to announce that the Member-Guest committee is in the process of fine-tuning the event and is providing an incentive for early registration. Register on or before June 5^th and receive a $30 discount off the $450 entry fee.

The format consists of two-man teams playing five 9-hole matches (three on Friday, two on Saturday) against competing teams of like abilities. Teams will be accumulating points in an effort to reach the ever-popular Shootout for the Grand Champion bragging rights. The event closes with a delicious gourmet dinner and awards ceremony on Saturday evening. This event provides the opportunity to treat a friend, family member or special someone to an exceptional event. Details will be forthcoming…..

Lightning Prediction System: The month of May is often associated with some severe thunderstorms. LFCC has a state-of-the-art lightning prediction system. This system will take the guesswork out of the question, is it safe to play? The system is programmed to sound when the likelihood of lightning is present. The following are the two signals that this system sounds: “Red Alert” one long (15 second) blast signals suspension of play, golfers should take shelter immediately; “All Clear” three short (5 second) blasts signals play may be resumed.

Please be aware that if play is suspended due to potential severe weather it is Club policy that when the “All Clear” sounds those golfers that heed the warning have the right of way on the course when returning to play. During a “Red Alert” situation, please be aware that the Golf Shop staff has been instructed not to distribute any range balls, issue any rental carts nor retrieve players from the course. This is Club policy.

Becky’s Mystery Bus Trip: Scheduled for Friday, August 4^th, this year’s event is sure to be everything the previous years have been if not better. As in the past, what happens on the Mystery Trip stays on the Mystery Trip. Please contact Becky directly for more information or to sign-up.

Small Golf Groups: If you are looking to entertain a small group of golfers during the week, we would like to take care of you. Please contact me with possible dates and times and I’ll see if we can make it work. I’m confident that you and your group will enjoy the day and we look forward to hosting you. Friendly Reminder: With the activity at the Club increasing, please take care entering and exiting the parking lot. Pedestrians, golf carts and automobiles are just some of the potential risks you may encounter. Taking a slow but sure approach will help ensure a safe environment for all of us.

It is also extremely important that ALL golfers register in the Golf Shop before commencing play. This will assist us in knowing where to find you in the case of an emergency, controlling the flow of play and advising you on any unusual rules or circumstances on the course.

Also, if you have children that use the underpass between the front nine and back nine, please remind them that golfers have the right of way. Additionally, Club policies prohibit the riding of bicycles, jogging or walking anywhere on the golf course, including the cart paths. Thank you for your assistance in making LFCC a safe and enjoyable facility.

Private Cart Stickers: Last call for you to provide the Club with your Private Cart Application as well as the proof of insurance required to operate your cart while on Club property. For those of you that have already provided these materials, thank you. If you have yet to receive your private cart sticker, please stop by the Golf Shop and ask for it. News from the Golf Shop……….

Please bare we me, this is a very long column. However, at the beginning of the golf season there is so much to talk about.

First off, welcome to the new members that I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting. I relish the opportunity to meet you and your family, and look forward to the opportunity to serve you. I’m sure you must have many questions about all the wonderful things LFCC has to offer. If at any time you need clarification, or just seek additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact me by phone, email or in person.

In the following, I will attempt to communicate the many programs that LFCC golf has to offer. Some of these programs carry additional fees, while others are simply perks of membership.

Congratulations to: University of Illinois Men’s golf coach and LFCC member Mike Small, recently honored by the PGA of America as the 2010 National PGA Player of the Year. There is a link to the presentation on the lfccgolf.com website.

New for 2011: In an effort to provide support for local charitable organizations, we thought it would be nice to incorporate a charitable feature to our events. For each of our events we plan to take a small portion of the entry fees and put it aside. At the end of the year, LFCC will make a monetary contribution to a local group(s). There will also be opportunities to provide additional funds on a voluntary basis at each event. We hope that you will join us in demonstrating that the good people of LFCC really care about our community. Thank you in advance for your support of this program. We will begin our fundraising drive with the Spring Fling.

Golf Event & Activities Board: The Golf Information Board is located on the lower level of the clubhouse in the hallway leading back to the locker rooms. This area will serve as the hub for all golf related information, results, event sign-ups, etc. Please make a habit of checking this board on a regular basis to stay current on all the latest golf news, notes and event sign-ups.

I will try to provide a timely and complete answer or confirmation of your sign-up (if applicable). With a busy summer ahead, staying informed will surely be helpful!

Spring Fling Event: This annual kickoff event is scheduled for Saturday, April 16^th with a 7:30a breakfast, followed by 8:30a shotgun. Golfers sign-up as singles, the Golf Shop will make the pairings using an ABCD formula. This year’s kickoff event will be a “drop out scramble”. With at least three chances at each shot, we’re confident this format will provide a GREAT start to the new season. This is also a great event for our new members to come out and enjoy a round of golf and some laughs with your fellow members.

The Spring Fling will have divisions for men and women, and offers you an opportunity to play golf with your fellow members while enjoying a round on the “best course in central Illinois”. Entry fee is $24 per player (breakfast included), sign-ups will be taken up until Noon on Friday, April 15^th. Plan on coming out and joining us as we celebrate the start of another season of FUN and excitement!

In the case that inclement weather cancels the event on April 16^th, we will hold the event on Saturday, April 23^rd with the same itinerary as was scheduled for April 16^th.

Men’s League: Teams for the 2011 Men’s League have been formed and the schedule of division matches is being prepared. If you would like to get involved as a league substitute, now is the time to let us know. We usually need anywhere from 15 to 25 subs a week. This is a great way to get to meet many of your fellow members, as well as enjoy 9 holes of golf and some camaraderie with the boys. We realize that not everybody can commit to a full season, so this is your chance to participate when your schedule permits. It’s truly the best men’s program going!

The 24-week season runs from April 20^th – September 28^th. The first 20 (April-August) weeks will begin with a 5pm shotgun start, while the four September dates begin with a 4:30p shotgun start. It’s shaping up to be a very exciting year for Men’s Wednesday Night League. Looking forward to the best season yet.

As we did in 2010, all Men’s League information will be provided on the lfccgolf.com website. This will eliminate the printing of 140 individual booklets, and our effort to “go green”. All of the following will be available online; team listings, divisions, weekly matches, rules and policies, weekly results, weekly standings, player and sub lists and more. Be sure to add lfccgolf.com to your favorites today.

A list of the selected qualifying events, their point values and how many points are needed to qualify may be viewed on the lfccgolf.com website, as well as on the Events/Activities Board located in the hallway outside of the men’s and women’s locker rooms. The first event of the season (Spring Fling) is a qualifying event for the “Memorial Cup”.

Club Service Offerings: The following is a rundown of some of the golf related Club Service Offerings. We have three range program offerings; single, double or family. Each of these programs include unlimited range ball usage during the regular driving range hours (April-October). There are also two club storage offerings; single or double. Both programs provide you the convenience of leaving your clubs here at the Golf Shop, and include club cleaning after each of your range or course visits. No more lugging the clubs back and forth, just leave them with us and enjoy the friendly service!

Private Carts: If you operated your own private cart in 2010 you should have automatically received the Trail Fee Application form in the mail. That form describes your obligation to furnish the Club proof of insurance on your cart. If you did not operate a private cart in 2010, but would like a Trail Fee Application form for the 2011 season, please contact either the Golf Shop or Club office for a copy.

We request that you provide the Club with proof of insurance for your private cart no later than April 15^th. Proof of insurance can be faxed (352-0627), emailed, mailed or delivered in person to the Golf Shop. Please do not send it in with your remittance payment to the Club lock box. Your 2011 private cart registration sticker will be issued after April 15^th once both pieces of information are on filed with the Club. Thank you for your assistance with this annual process.

Handicap Service: As in the past, we will again offer an electronic handicap system for your score entry. This service is provided through the Chicago District Golf Association at a cost of $22 per season. This is a $1 increase since the listing in the March newsletter, sorry! In addition to the benefits of your handicap service, you will receive the CDGA publication (Chicago District Golfer), online access to view your scores, as well as additional benefits such as discounted green fees at area courses. This service is available to all LFCC members.

Those members that enjoyed the handicap service in 2010 will automatically be renewed for 2011. If you are new to the Club, or did not take advantage of this program last season but would like to this year, please give us a call. If you would like to discontinue your handicap service, please contact us no later than April 15^th for a credit to your account.

Score posting for the 2011 season begins on Friday, April 1^st. If you were fortunate enough to have traveled to a warmer climate during our off-season, the golf shop staff will be happy to assist you in posting those scores. The handicap committee would like to remind you that all in-season scores must be posted. An in-season score is defined as the period of time in which the local association where the round was played is accepting scores for handicap purposes. This includes the posting of winter scores played in warmer climates across the country.

Just a friendly reminder, if you play less than 13 holes, you may post your round as a 9-hole score. All rounds that involve the play of 13 or more holes are to be posted as 18-hole rounds. Please ask the professional staff for assistance if you need help.

Mother’s Day & Father’s Day special: A decision has been made to amend the In-Town Guest Policy permitting immediate family members the opportunity to play as guests before Noon (as stated in the Club policies). This policy change applies only to Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.

Course Closures: On Thursday, April 21^st, we have scheduled a contractor to perform a water injection greens aerification process. As a result, parts of the course will be closed to give them the best chance for completion. The plan will be to keep nine holes in some form or another open throughout the process. Additionally, on Mondays the course opens for play at Noon except when a private outing is scheduled.

Car Pass: With the new season just around the corner, I wanted to make you aware of an idea sure to make the recipient happy, a 10 or 20-play Car Pass. These Car Passes enable the holder to 10 or 20-Play electric cart rentals while enjoying a round here at LFCC. These wonderful gifts can be purchased at the Golf Shop for $150 for a 10-Play (save $30) or $300 for a 20-Play (save $60). Car Passes can be used on guest rounds, family rounds or anytime you come out to enjoy a round.

Like many good things, this requires you to act soon. This program ends on Monday, April 25^th.

Printed Golf Program: In the effort to save the club money, the 2011 printed golf program is being distributed with your March statement. If you need any information regarding the scheduling of activities prior to receiving this program, please feel free to contact the Golf Shop, or access the lfccgolf.com website for a complete calendar of events. The golf committee has worked hard during the off-season to incorporate a nice balance of events that combine light competition and having FUN. I hope you will join us April 16^th for the Spring Fling as we begin another exciting golf season here at LFCC.

Weekend Tee Times: Starting the weekend of April 2^nd & 3^rd, we will begin using reservable tee times. Weekend tee times are available using the following guidelines: Saturday tee times may be made starting at 9am on the Thursday prior, and Sunday tee times may be made starting at 10am on Thursday prior. Reservable tee times are at 10 minute intervals from 7am to 10am, and then on the evens (:00, :20, :40) through 3pm. To reserve a tee time you must have at least 3 players in your group. Walk-up tee times are only available that day, and can only be made when all players in the group are present. Walk-up tee times are on the odds (:10, :30, :50) and begin at 10:10a and run through 2:50p. Singles that would like to play before 10am on weekends are encouraged to contact the Golf Shop for assistance with possible playing opportunities.

We feel that having reservable and walk-up tee times offer you the best of both worlds

Two Day Member-Guest: This year’s premiere guest event is scheduled for June 24^th & 25^th. The field of two-man teams is treated to 45 holes of golf, fabulous food and great camaraderie. When you receive your official information package, please don’t delay; mail or fax your sign-up form right away to reserve your spot in this outstanding event. The Member-Guest provides a unique opportunity to entertain a friend, client, business associate, or just that someone special to wonderful event. The staff at LFCC is looking forward to pampering you and your guest.

From the Ladies 18-Hole League: The Ladies 18-hole League kicks off another exciting season with an 8:30a shotgun on Tuesday, May 3^rd, with lunch following play. Dues for the 2011 season are $60.00 and are payable by the first day of play, May 3^rd. Please drop off your check to Becky, Kyle or Tim in the Golf Shop. The League brochures will be distributed at lunch and additional copies will be left in the Golf Shop for those that are unable to attend the kickoff. Also, notify the Golf Shop if you're planning to join us for the weekly golf and/or join the ladies for lunch.

Jackie Barkmeier and Greta Siemsen have graciously agreed to Co-chair League. An informational meeting/dinner has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 12^th. Cocktails at 5:30p, and dinner and League discussion at 6:00p. This meeting provides an excellent opportunity to come out and meet the ladies and see what is planned for the 2011 season. Please RSVP if you plan to attend the gathering. If you plan to play but cannot attend the informational gathering, please let us know so that we are sure to get you the latest information once available. It’s going to be a FUN season!

Ladies 9 Hole League: The Wednesday morning 9-hole League is scheduled to kick off its season on May 4^th with a 9:00a shotgun. Each week a different game of skill and chance is enjoyed followed by a group lunch. More details will follow once they are available. The 9-holers will host an informational luncheon on Wednesday, April 6^th at 11:30. For those interested, please RSVP to Kim Hubbard, Peggy Prichard or the Golf Shop. If you are interested in playing but cannot attend the gathering, please let us know and we will forward you all the relevant information.

Ladies Practice Makes Perfect: Formerly know as 4-Holers, this instructional series is a great way to tune/improve your skills. We will again be offering two five-week series on Tuesday evenings. The first series will run from April 19^th through May 17^th, the second series will run from June 7^th through July 12^th. Whether you’re a newcomer to the game or an advanced player, these programs offer excellent instruction combined with a friendly atmosphere. Each evening will last approximately 1 hour and consist of a different subject matter (full swing, short game, putting, etc.), plenty of practice, great camaraderie and lots of laughs.

With a group clinic atmosphere, a chance to meet many of your fellow golfers and a girl’s night out, what are you waiting for? Sign-ups are limited to the first 26 in each series. If you are interested in both sessions, please be aware that since space is limited, we will reserve the right to put names from series I on the waiting list for series II. Entry for each series (of 5 lessons) is $75. Considering that a single ½ hour lesson is $35, this is also a great value in addition to tons of FUN.

Golf Shop Hours: Starting in April, we will revert back to our usual schedule of Tuesday through Sunday. We will be closed on Mondays before Memorial Day and after Labor Day. Monday’s June 6^th through August 29^th, the Golf Shop and Driving Range will open at Noon.

Re-Grip Special: With another season at hand, now is a good time to get out your clubs and take a close look at your grips. If your grips are worn, slippery, hard or have just lost that ever important “feel”, it’s time to stop by and let us professionally install new grips. New grips will improve your “feel”, control of the club and likely even your scores. Don’t play another round with those slippery, hard and worn out grips, get your clubs ready for the new season. In most cases, just 24 hours and you’re ready to go!

All sets of eight clubs or more will receive a 10% discout.

Plan Now: With the beginning of another season here at LFCC, I’m sure that you’re anxious to get back on the course. I’m sure you feel LFCC is the premier course in central Illinois, take advantage of the opportunity to show it off. If you have a small group (28 or under) and would like to arrange to host them, please feel free to give me a call to discuss how we can help your group enjoy a day at the Club. LFCC offers a tremendous opportunity to entertain clients, co-workers or friends to a day of great golf, excellent food and plenty of FUN.

Please be aware that advanced arrangements must be made for all groups of more than eight players. Don’t delay, make your plans today.

Fitting/Demo Days: The first of three is scheduled for Sunday April 17^th from 1pm to 5pm, come out and try out the “latest and greatest” Titleist has to offer. We will be hosting representatives from Titleist. Demo Days provide a great opportunity to try some of the latest technology. We are taking time specific sign-ups for a custom fitting session, as well as the opportunity to ask company representatives questions about their products and industry trends.

Our second Demo Day will take place on Saturday, May 14^th and we will be hosting Cleveland Golf and Srixon from 2pm to 6pm. Our third offering takes place on Sunday, May 15^th as we host Ping & Cobra Golf.

These Demo Day are presented by the Tim Buscombe Golf Shop and are free of charge to LFCC members and their guests. Share the news, bring a friend! For the May 14^th & 15^th sessions, we will have a big screen on the range tee with The Players Championship being televised.

Junior Golf Sign-up: Scheduled for Sunday, May 1^st from 3pm to 5pm, this will kickoff another year of Junior Golf at LFCC. The Friday morning programs start on June 10^th and will continue each Friday (except June 24^th) through July 29^th. Times and additional information will follow in upcoming newsletters.

Early Morning Golf: Starting in April and running through August, the course will be available for early play on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Members may begin play starting as early as 6:30a on a designated nine holes. Hopefully, this opportunity will provide you the chance to play a few more rounds this season and further the enjoyment of your membership. What could be better than 9 holes before work? Okay, I guess not having to go to work, but until then, come out and enjoy a few holes and start your day with a little fresh air.

Please be aware that you will still need to check the course status board (outside the Golf Shop) to see what the course rules are for the day. Only one nine will be open for early play; the nine closed will have a sign directing you to play the other nine. Additionally, please be aware that the Club rental carts will not be available until the traditional starting time of 8am. If you have a private cart, or enjoy walking when you play, this early morning opportunity is for you.

Driving Range Policy: As you may be aware, the proximity of the driving range to the fairway of the 9^th hole, coupled with the continual (distance) improvements to today’s advanced equipment has created a potentially dangerous environment for LFCC golfers and guests playing hole #9. With the growth of the trees between the 9^th hole and the driving range, it makes it difficult for individuals on the range to see golfers coming up the fairway of hole #9. This makes it especially important to give notice to golfers on hole #9 when you hit range shots that are heading in that direction. Using the internationally know shout of “FORE” is the best way to signal errant shots. It is also advised that guiding shots away from the direction of the 9^th hole helps provide a safer environment for golfers on hole #9.

If we all diligently take the necessary measures of safety first, this will be a good first step in lessening the potential for severe injury to a fellow golfer.

Club Policies: Please be aware that all golf related Club policies take effect starting April 15^th. This includes, but is not limited to: Dress Code, Guest rules, Fivesomes, Junior play times, etc. We will also begin taking tee times for weekend play starting with the weekend of April 2^nd & 3^rd. See Weekend Tee Times in this newsletter for more details.

Reciprocal Play: I am pleased to announce that LFCC is in the process of securing the same nine reciprocal agreements we enjoyed last season. Once we have confirmed participation from the other clubs we will make an announcement via the Club email.

The nine facilities include:

Crestwicke CC in Bloomington, Effingham CC, Kankakee CC, Mattoon CC, South Side CC in Decatur, Panther Creek CC in Springfield, Pekin CC, Mt. Hawley CC in Peoria and Urbana CC.

These reciprocal arrangements provide LFCC members the opportunity to play these other fine courses weekdays (Tuesday-Friday) without green fees being charged. Please be aware that if you are hosting guests the usual guest fee rates will apply. Also, some limitations apply to the times available. Please contact Tim, Becky or Kyle for further details.

Lightning Prediction System: LFCC has a state-of-the-art lightning prediction system. This system will take the guesswork out of the question, is it safe to play? The automated system is designed to sound when the likely-hood of lightning is present. The following are the two signals that this system sounds: “Red Alert” one long (15 second) blast signals suspension of play, golfers should take shelter immediately; “All Clear” three short (5 second) blasts signals play may be resumed. Also, when the “All Clear” sounds, players that heeded the warning and came off the course will have the right-of-way when play resumes.

Hole-In-One Club: In golf the most coveted shot is the hole-in-one. By signing up for the Hole-In-One Club you can share the excitement of a hole-in-one by treating your fellow members to a celebratory beverage. If you are signed up and score a hole-in-one during an 18 hole round (or league round) at LFCC between April 15^th & October 15^th you will receive $10 from each of the other members signed up for this program. Your account will be charged $10 only if another member of the Hole-In-One Club scores a hole-in-one at LFCC. Details of this program will be on the Hole-In-One Club sign-up board coming in early April.

President’s Cup & Fields Match Play: Just an early note to help you plan your summer. Matches for the President’s Cup (an individual single elimination match play in which the player with the lower handicap plays at scratch and his opponents receives the difference in handicap strokes) will begin in mid-May. This is also the case for the Fields Match Play (a two-man team Better Ball format single elimination event in which the player(s) with the lowest handicap plays at scratch, and the remaining players receive the difference in handicap strokes). Matches for both of these events will have specific 2-3 week deadlines for the completion of each round of matches. Make your plans now and rally a good partner to ENJOY the summer with.

Sign-up deadline for both of these events is Sunday, May 8^th.

Golf Lessons: With the golf season finally at our doorstep, I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know a little about the golf lesson program. As in the past, Becky, Kyle and myself will be offering individual and group lessons. It is recommended that lessons be made on a reservation basis, although, this is not to say that sometimes a lesson cannot be given on a walk-up basis. Advance notice really helps with staff scheduling and we encourage you to give us 24 hours notice.

All lessons are scheduled for 30 minutes (unless otherwise noted) and may be charged to your Club account, paid by check or cash. I’m happy to announce that lesson rates have remained the same since 2000. Rates are: $35 per ½ hour, and $25 per ½ hour for juniors (16 and under). We also offer an adult series of (4) ½ hour lessons for a package price of $120. When signing up for a series of (4) lessons, it is the intent that all (4) lessons will be given by the same instructor.

Golf Staff: I’m delighted to report that the friendly staff from 2010 will be returning for another year of service and FUN. Assistant professionals, Becky Beach and Kyle VanScyoc, support staff; Ben Peden, Bissie Buscombe, Will Buscombe, Chris Lehmann and Taylor Downey. We are extremely excited to be keeping the “dream team” in tact.

I hope to be adding individual photos to the website to assist you in recognizing our faithful service team. Most will be returning in mid-May.
